A FEW THINGS ABOUT THE ARTIST

1. What do you do when you’re not making art? (Day job etc...).

I worked for the City of Grand Rapids for 35 years administering federal housing funds, developing new housing and housing the homeless. Upon retiring I am happy to be a full time painter.

2. Why do you make art?

I love color.

3. What inspires you?

I am thrilled by landscapes with contrast, hills, mountains, lakes. So nature and the Earth's beauty would be on top of my list. I also find beauty in cityscapes, food and flowers and interiors.

4. What/who are your influences?

Two impressionists in particular, Bonnard and Vuillard. My American influences would be Fairfield Porter, Wolf Kahn, Edward Hopper, Georgia O’Keeffe, & Milton Avery.

5. If you could meet anyone dead or alive who would it be?

Kyle Staver, Jennifer Pochinski, Katherine Bradford, Loraine Stephenson, Carlos San Milan, all living. Many of these artists post frequently on Facebook and you can see where they are teaching and showing.
