A FEW THINGS ABOUT THE ARTIST

1. What do you do when you’re not making art? (Day job etc...).

We have 7 acres and have established a nature reserve with a new growth forest we started. Quirky outdoor art happening here. Also love to read Swedish crime fiction.

2. Why do you make art?

Like having imaginary friends - I create what is missing in my life.

3. What inspires you?

Opportunities. I cannot resist repurposing castoff or unusual materials. Woodgrain patterns just scream to be part of a painting.

4. What/who are your influences?

Even though his art is vastly different from mine, Purvis Young was a huge influence. His determined and constant expression of his beliefs and view of the world was in his art. Also, my grandfather was a brilliant man who only finished sixth grade but taught himself to paint, do woodworking, build houses, and more.

5. If you could meet anyone dead or alive who would it be?

Buckminster Fuller, inventor of the Dymaxion house and car and creator of the geodesic dome.
