JANE FREILICHER
(1924-2014) was born in Brooklyn, NY, and lived and painted primarily in NYC and Long Island. She was a student of Hans Hofmann, and an early member of the New York School of painting. Her friends and colleagues included the painters Helen Frankenthaler, Larry Rivers, Joan Mitchell, and Fairfield Porter. She is known for painting from life, often landscape and still life. She had a very active career showing work in New York City throughout her life, and her paintings can be found in the permanent collections of the Whitney Museum, the Museum of Modern Art, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
