SALVADOR DALI

(1904 - 1989) was a prominent surrealist artist from Catalonia, Spain. He was primarily a painter, but worked in several other media including drawing, filmmaking, sculpture and photography. He was known for having an eccentric personality, and for being excessive and grandiose. His eccentric manner and attention-grabbing public actions sometimes drew more attention than his artwork. He produced over 1500 paintings in his lifetime, and his best known work is The Persistance of Memory (1931.) Dali is among one of the best known surrealist artists, and has work in every major museum in the world.
